life and sun in january

what i love about vancouver’s coastal climate, is that there is always something happening in the garden. this magnolia tree is part of the common property outside of the townhouses and it seems it is always in a state of transition. Looking in on my own planters boxes i can see that ‘winter’ is no match for some of my plants either. surprising to some, my bananas don’t seem to care about the chilly nights we have been having. leaves keep pushing up from the cut pseudo-stems and as you can see by the pictures, there are even some suckers reaching for the sun already. i am hoping they will not be punished for their earliness. soon i won’t be able to stay away from the garden – luckily i don’t think i will have too.
